Equip your seeds by holding R

Seeds are easy to overlook when you are trying to plant your first garden bed. In Loftia's demo keyboard controls, hold R to open the tool wheel, choose the slot you want to use, and select your seeds. This puts the seeds in your hand so you can return to planting instead of repeatedly searching the main inventory.

These instructions follow player experience in AlphaGalaxyy's narrated demo tips, with the hold-R tool selection independently described in Z1 Gaming's demo session. They cover the demonstrated keyboard interface; see the official Loftia Steam page for the game and its release information.

The short sequence is:

  1. Hold R, rather than giving it a quick tap.
  2. Choose the wheel slot where you want the seeds.
  3. Select the seeds from the available item selection.
  4. Check that the seeds are now in your hand.
  5. Return to the garden bed and follow the planting prompt.

The player explains the same assignment process for the watering can. If the can is not already on the wheel, open the wheel, choose it, and then switch to it when you need to water.

Holding R and tapping R do different jobs

The distinction between a hold and a tap explains why pressing the right key can still feel ineffective.

Keyboard action in the demo reportWhat it does
Hold ROpen the wheel to select or assign an item
Choose seeds in the wheelEquip the selected seeds
Tap RCycle between recently used items

Tapping R is useful after your farming tools are set up. You can move between seeds and the watering can without reopening item selection each time. But cycling recent items will not necessarily find a seed type you have not selected yet; use the full hold-R step when changing what you want equipped.

The same approach is useful when moving between farming and gathering. AlphaGalaxyy also describes assigning the hammer to the wheel for quicker access during resource trips.

Continue Hazel's planting lesson

In the narrated opening demo route, Hazel asks you to place a garden bed on your island and plant lettuce seeds. The player then crafts a watering can at the project station, equips it through the tools, and waters the planted lettuce.

If you are at a planting objective but cannot find the seeds, inspect the wheel's item selection before assuming you need to buy another packet. Once they are equipped, check that you are trying to plant in the garden bed required by the task, and follow the control prompt shown by your build.

After planting, switch to the watering can. The tutorial explains that thirsty crops stop growing, so selecting seeds successfully is only the first part of getting a harvest. Watch the crop indicators and refill the can at a rain collector when needed.

The available demo narration does not establish a controller equivalent or a universal button for every later build. Use the current on-screen binding if you have changed controls or are playing on another input device.

FAQ

What key opens the seed wheel?

Hold R on the keyboard in the demonstrated demo controls. A quick tap cycles recent items instead of opening the full selection process.

How do I change which seeds are equipped?

Hold R, choose the slot you want, and select the desired seeds from the item selection. Check the item in your hand before returning to the garden bed.

Can I put the watering can on the wheel too?

Yes. The demo player describes opening the wheel and selecting the watering can when it is missing from the current wheel setup. Use it after planting to water the crops.
